History of Jalan Bunga Rampai, Bartley Road
Bartley Road is one of the major roads in Singapore. The 5.8 km road extends from Upper Serangoon Road all through to Tampines Avenue 10. It covers Serangoon, Paya Lebar, Bartley, Kaki Bukit, Defu, and Bedok Reservoir.
Bartley Road is divided into three sections into Bartley Road East (Kaki Bukit Viaduct), Paya Lebar Viaduct, and Bartley Road.
Bartley Road East, also called Kaki Bukit Viaduct, is a 2.1 km road running from Kaki Bukit Avenue 4 to Bedok Reservoir and Tampines Avenue 10. The road was opened for use at the end of 2003.
The Paya Lebar Viaduct section extends from Upper Paya Lebar Road, running 2.2 km to Airport Road. The road has a slip lane at Hougang Avenue 3 junction and a 1.3 km four-lane carriageway long viaduct passing over the road.
The original Bartley Road section (part of Outer Ring Road System) runs about 1.5 km, from Upper Serangoon Road to Upper Paya Lebar Road.
The extension of Bartley Road began in Dec 2000 and completed in Jan 2010. The extension entails constructing new roads to link Upper Serangoon Road and Tampines Avenue 10 to ease the heavy traffic along Bedok Reservoir Road and PIE during peak hours.
It will also provide motorists with an alternative route from Paya Lebar to Tampines. Travellers can now save up to 10 mins by travelling through Bartley Road East and reduce the distance by about 500m, unlike before.
The extension project was split into two: Paya Lebar Viaduct phase and Kaki Bukit Viaduct phase. The Paya Lebar phase was completed in Jan 2010, while the Kaki Bukit Viaduct phase was done by July 2010.
The landmark along Bartley Road include Maris Stella High School, Upper Serangoon Viaduct, Bartley Christian Church, Bartley MRT station, Kim Chuan Depot, Bartley Secondary School, Bedok Reservoir Park, and Paya Lebar Air Base.
